Ways to save water and the environment
There are a range of opportunities to save water, including:
- Detecting leaks, dripping taps and faulty valves
- Fitting automatic flushing devices in urinals and reducing cistern volumes
- Using pressure reducers or flow restrictors to reduce water use, eg on hand basins and hoses
- Replacing old equipment with new models that use water more efficiently
- Making processes more water-efficient
- Collecting rainwater for low-grade purposes, eg washing vehicles or plant - ensuring that wash water does not enter the surface water drainage system
- Reusing cooling water for other purposes
- Choose vegetation that is well-suited to your climate and does not require excessive watering.
- Avoiding buying bottled water. Consider getting rid of the office water cooler and drinking filtered tap water instead.
- Use washable and reusable cups and/or bottles.
- Avoid decorative water fountains in lobbies or in front of buildings.
